Teaching

I have given these talks from time to time over the years, but I have never offered them in Ontario! A few people asked me if I might do it live here… so:

Deepening Your Prayer and Meditation Practice, July 27th 11-1/1:30 approximately (free or donation, see below) followed by a potluck lunch

This an introductory workshop about how the arts and physical awareness can help us meditate/pray more deeply. It will begin with an informative talk with some simple science, tools from spiritual texts (Mostly Baha’i/Zen maybe some some Hindu/Christian…) followed by a very short, guided meditation session and then sharing.

  • the talk: basic information about deep internal versus more external bodily awareness, (the diaphragm, the circulatory system, the brain…) with simple tools to direct one’s awareness to better serve a practice of self-knowledge (prayer/meditation)

BREAK

  • the meditation: I will lead a SIMPLE 10-30 minute (depending on interest!) meditation session with guided physical awareness scanning
  • the sharing: I will offer ways that over the year I have learned to ‘cheat’, as a meditator. This will launch a discussion to learn from each other creative ways we have learned to get around blocks and maintain a more consistent practice when it gets hard!

OPTIONAL POTLUCK LUNCH… stay and hang out!

Note: This is a very basic workshop, open to anyone from any Faith or non-religious practice (runners/yoga practitioners…), there will be time to learn from each other, so advanced to total beginners in meditation/prayer welcome!

Please RSVP to Erika Batdorf at erika@batdorf.org
(anyone coming from Toronto, perhaps let me know if you have space for car-pooling!)

Feel free to forward to anyone you think might enjoy this!

The workshop is free, but you are welcome to make a donation to STREAMS HUB
